With 88 tackles on defense and 64 pancake blocks last year, Adam Speer is showing that he will be eclipsing those accomplishments early in his season, even with a spiral fracture in his hand. "Adam broke his hand two weeks ago and has only missed 4 plays since then," Mr. Speer said. "He's playing both ways, defensive end and right tackle. So far, he has 44 pancake blocks, 51 tackles on defense, 7 ½ sacks, 4 fumble recoveries, 3 hurries, 1 pass deflection and hasn't allowed a sack from his side all year."
Having a stellar year so far, Irish Eyes wondered if Adam's recruiting has stepped up a notch at all. "Oh yeah, a lot of film has gone out on him," he confessed. "The Big 10 has jumped into the process and BC (Boston College) is chasing him pretty hard."
Although Adam is getting so much attention from schools all over the nation, his heart is sold on Notre Dame. "I'm from Oklahoma," Adam's father confessed. "I was raised a Sooner, but at nine years old Adam put posters up of the Golden Dome and Touchdown Jesus on his wall and has been waking up to it ever since. I really don't know what happened."
Though being rooted in Oklahoma, the Speer family has more of a connection to Notre Dame then people might think. "Joey Getherall's father and I used to be business partners," he said. "He said, ‘Whatever you do, don't let him go to BC.'"
Comments: Mr. Speers enthusiasm about his son's desire to be at Notre Dame is nothing new. Irish Eyes has known this since we first spoke with him. A lot of film has gone out and Notre Dame has gotten one of them. It's just a matter for the coaches now. If offered, it won't even be an issue if he'll commit.
