Lyles Staying Focused

Nate Lyles, the star defensive back for Hubbard HS in Chicago has a lot on his mind lately. Setting up recruiting visits isn't one them. His focus remains on his season, especially after last weekends surprising defeat. Notre Dame is still in the picture with Lyles, but recruiting has taken a backseat for Lyles right now as he tries to help his team get a little bit of redemption.

Nate Lyles' Hubbard HS team went into last week's showdown with Morgan Park undefeated, and ranked #2 in the region. After the game, there were a host of emotions running from confused to embarrassed as Morgan Park came away victorious by the score of 47-0. "We just weren't playing our game at all" said Lyles. "We had 8 turnovers and they led to a lot of points for [Morgan Park.] I just can't wait to get back on the field to knock some heads around. We really have to redeem ourselves this week." Hubbard plays Bogan in the first round of the playoffs this week.

So far this season, Lyles is averaging 9 tackles per game, and has 5 interceptions in 7 games. Recruiting is starting to pick up, even though Lyles would just rather it didn't right now. "I'm just really trying to keep all my focus on my season. We're in a tough stretch, and coming off a tough loss my team mates really need me to be focused."

Though he would rather not get so many calls, coaches are still calling, and lining up to try to get him to visit their school. Does Lyles have a top 5? "I don't really have a top 5. I'm looking at a few schools. Notre Dame, Virginia, Michigan State, Stanford, Northwestern , and Iowa are a few."

Has Lyles heard from Notre Dame lately. "Yes, [Coach Walters] calls once a week. I talked to him last week. We just discuss how I would fit into the program, and certain techniques. He's real cool."

Don't expect Lyles to make a decision anytime soon. "I'm not going to set up any visits until after my season." With Notre Dame already getting quite a few unofficial visits from Lyles this past year, will Lyles be visiting Notre Dame officially this year too? "Yeah, I'm going to give Notre Dame a visit for sure. Virginia too. Those are the only two I know I'll visit."

Comments: Looks like Notre Dame is in pretty good right now. Of course we'll know more after Lyles takes a few visits. This interview was done on Wednesday. Lyles played last night (Thursday 10/23) and his Hubbard team won 36-0 over Bogan to advance to the second round of the playoffs. Morgan Park also won. Hopefully Lyles and his team will get another crack at Morgan Park. Top Stories
