Davis Enjoys Visit to South Bend

Fort Worth, TX is home to corner prospect, D.J. Davis. The 5-11, 185-pound athlete has over 30 offers so far including one from Notre Dame. Davis recently visited Notre Dame and Irish Eyes caught up with him to get his thoughts on his visit to South Bend.

"I had a real good time," said Davis. "Ashley McConnell was my host and I hung out with him and John Sullivan and a bunch of the lineman. I really enjoyed it there."

Davis says that many Irish players told him that he reminded them of another former Irish great. "I thought I fit in really well there. They all accepted me like I was part of the team. I really liked how they accepted me. They told me that I reminded them of Gerome Sapp."

The Texas native was also impressed by the Notre Dame camps. "That place is big-time. I think I could get used to the weather no problem. The campus was huge and beautiful and the stadium was great. That's big-time up there with all their tradition."

Tyrone Willingham also made an impression. "He seemed like a very serious guy but a cool friend too. I liked him a lot. I think he'd be a cool coach to play for."

We asked D.J. what his parents thought of the visit and he put his dad, Robert on the phone. "It was pretty cool," said Robert Davis. "They have so much tradition at Notre Dame. We were disappointed we didn't get to see the dorms. D.J. saw them and said they were O.K. We were rushed for time though so we didn't get to see them."

Willingham also impressed Robert. "He appeared very straight-laced. I think he'll get that team back to their winning ways. You could tell he was very confident he would and just needed a few more players to get there. We really liked Coach Willingham."

Davis has a few more visits set already. "I've already been to Notre Dame and Penn State. I have Missouri set for December 5th and Texas A&M for December 12th. My last visit will probably be to USC, but I haven't set that yet. A coach came to my game and they call the house regularly."

Davis' Forth Worth Dunbar high school is still in the playoffs. Davis is playing wide receiver, corner and quarterback this season. "I want to play corner in college."

Comments: The Irish did a nice job with the Davis family on the official visit. It appears D.J. and his family really enjoyed Notre Dame. The USC visit looms large however. Hopefully the Irish can hang on.
