Duerson Speaks About Commitment

Irish Eyes just spoke with Tregg Duerson about his commitment to Notre Dame. Find out how he became a Notre Dame prospect

Tregg Duerson had been hoping for that phone call. "The official offer came last night," said Duerson. "Coach Willingham called and I knew when he called that I was going to get offered. It was shocking. I knew immediately that Notre Dame was where I was going. I knew that was the place I wanted to be."

Duerson said his recruitment started last January. "My recruitment started in January. I went to Notre Dame camp the year before and I went again this year. Coach Willingham told me that he was really impressed with my speed and they were very interested. He didn't say if they were going to recruit me, but they did. He said he wants me to play corner and make an impact on special teams as a kick returner."

Duerson impressed at Notre Dame camp. "I ran a 4.5 at Notre Dame camp, but I've ran a 4.45 before. I also ran a 4.28 shuttle time there. I think they liked how I played and my quickness."

There has been some question as to his size. We asked Tregg about his particulars. "I'm 5-10 and I weigh about 165 right now."

The entire family was excited when Willingham called according to Tregg. "We were all very excited. My Dad is real excited. I've always known that I could play at this level. I just needed a chance to prove it. Now I will."
