Carpenter has led his team to an 11-0 record so far while completing 133 passes, on 210 attempts for 2400 yards. He has thrown 32 touchdowns with only four interceptions. Rudy is fielding a lot of attention now. "I have about 12 offers right now," Rudy said. "San Diego State, Arizona, Arizona State, Fresno State, Boise State, Tennessee (verbal), Colorado, Colorado State, Washington Stante and Oregon are some of the schools that have offered."
Having been a fan of USC and wanting to play football there, Rudy has now looked past them and is now exploring all his options. "I was at USC this past weekend to go to the USC vs. UCLA game and I spoke with Coach Carroll," he confessed. "They were really high on me but with getting John David Booty, they were really looking to recruit me as an athlete, either wide receiver or defensive back. I thanked them for their time and honesty, because my intention is to play quarterback."
So with his options wide open, Irish Eyes asked Rudy if he would be interested in Notre Dame. "Definitely would be." He said. "The tradition is high there. It's a great institution for academics and they are on television every week."
With interest in Notre Dame, Rudy has been in contact with Coach Mattison. "They knew who I was and was interested that I'd be interested in Notre Dame," he said. "Coach Mattison had come to the school in the spring, but I wasn't eligible at the time so I wasn't practicing at all, so they couldn't get a chance to look at me. Now last week, I talked to Coach Mattison and he told me that they were requesting my transcripts and sending it through the process."
Having only taken one official visit, we asked Rudy if a visit to Notre Dame was a possibility. "If Notre Dame invited me or offered I would," he said. "That's probably one of the schools I'd visit."
Comments: Rudy Carpenter can probably turn out to be one of the steals of this class. The transfer situation rendered him temporarily ineligible at the time, so he wasn't able to participate in spring practice or go to any camps, so he wasn't getting much press or looks from coaches like the other quarterbacks that had the numbers he had. With just as impressive numbers in his senior year and an undefeated so far, a lot of people who don't have a quarterback committed will probably luck out. He is very interested in Notre Dame and, like he said, if they invited or offered, he would visit. With his recruiting process just starting, consider Notre Dame to be in the thick of it with everyone else and getting strong consideration.
