Gruden Sounding Golden

David Haugh, the top columnist following Notre Dame football, ventured to Indianapolis Sunday night and cornered Jon Gruden. Would Gruden be interested in coaching the Irish one day? The quotes Haugh received from the Raiders' head coach might lift your spirits. IrishEyes provides the link to Haugh's South Bend Tribune story here.

Gruden A Golden Match?

By David Haugh
The South Bend Tribune

When Jon Gruden was a high school student at South Bend Clay, David Haugh of the South Bend Tribune writes, he would give tours of Notre Dame to prospective football recruits. That was nearly 25 years ago when Gruden’s dad Jim was on Dan Devine’s staff.

Now there is no doubt that the younger Gruden – the charismatic Oakland Raiders’ head coach – would be a wildly popular choice as the next Notre Dame head football coach. But would Gruden be interested if Bob Davie is asked to leave?

To find out, Haugh – a multiple Indiana sportswriter of the year winner – went to Indianapolis Sunday night to interview Gruden following the Raiders-Colts game. Gruden’s comments, along with those of ESPN analyst and Notre Dame graduate Joe Theismann, make for great copy. They will also lift the spirits of Notre Dame Nation.
