Irish Eyes spoke with Bishop McNamara's coach Bernard Joseph about his defensive end prospect. Joseph feels that Brown is a diamond in the rough. "I think he's going to be a great one," said Joseph. "His upside is unlimited. He hasn't played much football. He was a basketball player that we talked into coming out this year. He really only has played in seven games."
Brown did some considerable damage in those seven games according to Joseph. "He was second on the team in tackles with 85. He had 13 sacks, and we counted quarterback hurries and he had 24. It really is amazing that he could do what he did. That just shows what kind of athlete he is. He can really run, and basketball really helped him."
Quite a few schools have already found out about this diamond in the rough. "He's been offered by Michigan, Boston College, Notre Dame, Clemson, Maryland, Connecticut, Kent State, and Richmond."
Brown has also made some visits. "He went to Kent State a few weeks ago. He went to Boston College last weekend. He has Notre Dame scheduled for January 16th, and Michigan for January 23rd. Either Clemson or Maryland will be his last visit."
We asked Joseph if Brown has given any indication where he is leaning. "No, he's holding back on that. He says he wants to take all his visits before looking at that. He's a smart kid."
Joseph can't say enough good things about Brown as a person. "He's an awesome kid. He comes from a great family. His Dad is an outstanding man who's in Ministry school right now. He has a lot of character and integrity. I know he's interested in Notre Dame. He knows what kind of coaching staff they have there, and that's a big plus. He said he can't wait to get up there and meet the coaches."
Comments: I've heard Brown is the real deal. The Irish appear to have a good shot at Brown. We are trying to find a number to get some quotes from him.
