Taylor Sets Visit to Notre Dame

The Woodlands high school in The Woodlands, Texas has sent Notre Dame two recent football recruits in Grant Irons and Travis Leitko. Both are great young men, and now the Irish are looking at another fine player and person in Samson Taylor. The 5-11, 200-pound running back prospect recently received an offer from the Irish, and scheduled a visit to Notre Dame.

Samson Taylor had an excellent senior season. "I know I had 2,100 all-purpose yards. I had 1,800 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns total," said Taylor.

Taylor had said he'd wait to set his official visits until after his season is over. Now that the season is over, he's set a visit to Notre Dame. "I've only set one so far. Coach Trent Miles came here yesterday and we set one for January 16th. Coach Buzz (Preston) was here last week. That is the only visit I've set so far."

The Texas native has had a number of in-home visits this week, and more on the way. "Tulane and Arizona came today. Duke, Texas A&M, and Michigan State are set to come this week."

We asked Taylor when he plans to set the remainder of his visits. "I plan to vacation down in Florida over break. I'm going to use that time to narrow my list down so I can come up with a list of who I want to visit. I should have it narrowed down after my vacation."

The Irish appear high on his list right now. "I like what they have to offer. They are a young team, and should be real good soon. They don't have much for tailback depth so it's a good fit, and the academics are great there. My dad really likes them. He's big on academics. He was an English teacher so that's big for him."

Comments: The Irish appear to be in good position with Taylor. We'll have to wait until after his vacation to see who the competition might be. I think it's a good sign that the Irish have the first visit scheduled.
