Grixby Remains Interested in Notre Dame

Omaha, Nebraska athlete Cortney Grixby is narrowing down his list. Grixby recently had a visitor to one of his basketball games in Tyrone Willingham. Willingham made a big impression on Grixby and the Irish are in the race for his signature.

Cortney Grixby is in the process of setting up an official visit to Notre Dame. "We are trying to get that set up now," said Grixby. "It will be in the middle of January. Probably around the 16th. I'll definitely visit there."

Willingham recently went to watch Grixby play basketball and made a big impression. "He did come to a game. I got to talk to him afterwards for quite a while. He's a real good guy. I liked what he had to say. He told me they wanted me as a wide receiver. I'm willing to play anywhere as long as I get on the field."

The speculation has been that Grixby is waiting for Nebraska to name Bo Pellini as head coach and that Grixby would commit shortly afterwards. We asked Grixby about these reports. "That's just people talking. I like him as a coach. I think he does a great job. That doesn't mean that I'd commit there. People are just trying to find something with that. I'm going to visit Notre Dame."

Grixby says Nebraska and Notre Dame are his two top schools. "It's pretty much down to those two. I just want to see how comfortable I feel there with the players and coaches. I'll make a decision sometime after my visit."

Comments: The Irish appear to be in the race, but still have to beat Nebraska for a Nebraska kid--something that doesn't happen often. The Irish have more selling to do, but we feel he's interested enough to take a visit. We'll have to wait and see what happens after the visit. Top Stories
