Quarterback Jordan Lyons is down to his two final visits. "I have Notre Dame on January 23rd and Penn State January 30th," said Lyons. "Those are my last two."
When did the Irish become interested in Lyons? "Really it was after the new year. They called and I've talked to them since. We scheduled the visit. They told me they have Brady Quinn and a walk-on at quarterback. They told me they would be taking two quarterbacks. They haven't offered me yet."
Lyons has an impressive list of offers so far. "Stanford, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan State and Penn State have offered me so far."
The Irish also tried to schedule an in-home visit today. "Coach Miles kept trying to reach me today, but I can't have my phone on in school. They wanted to come by today. I guess it will have to be next week now."
Is Lyons interested in Notre Dame? "I'm very interested in Notre Dame. I'd be even more interested if they offered me. I'm looking forward to visiting there. When you think about the prestige of playing football at Notre Dame and getting a Notre Dame degree, it's easy to be interested in Notre Dame."
Right now, it appears to be a two-team race. "Right now, Notre Dame and Penn State are the only schools that want me at quarterback. I want to play quarterback in college. My decision will come down to these two schools."
Lyons says he didn't play in a passing offense in high school. "We play a split-wishbone offense. I complete 51 percent of my passes for 1,420 yards and 15 touchdowns. I also ran for 1,015 yards and 14 touchdowns. I feel I have good feet, I think I see the field well. I think I make good, quick decisions and can read defenses really well."
So what happens if Notre Dame does offer? "It will come down to the Notre Dame and Penn State. The visits will have a lot to do with that."
Comments: Lyons is a great kid. He'd fit in well at Notre Dame. It will all depend on what happens at quarterback. The Irish should have a good shot if they offer him.
