Ferrine Speaks About Commitment

New Jersey native Leo Ferrine committed to the Irish over the weekend. Irish Eyes spoke with the 6-0, 180-pound cornerback prospect about his visit and commitment to Notre Dame.

Leo Ferrine said he was very excited about his commitment to Notre Dame. "It all came down to a feeling I had while I was there," said Ferrine. "Coach Willingham is a real cool guy. I really liked all the coaching staff there. I loved the tradition and everything about Notre Dame."

Ferrine also liked the Notre Dame players. "I thought I fit in real well with the players. Brandon Hoyte was my host. He's a real cool guy. They have a number of guys from Jersey, but I really liked the fact that they had guys from all over the country--guys from every part of the country."

The Irish coaching staff told Ferrine he'd start out at cornerback for Notre Dame. "They want me to play corner. They told me they had a lack of corners there, and that I had a shot to play as a freshman there. I know my capabilities, and I know if I don't play as a freshman that it's my fault. I think I can play there as a freshman."

Was his family excited about his commitment? "Yeah, they were very happy. My Mom loved Notre Dame. She really liked Coach Willingham. Everyone is excited for me."
