Derrick Williams will probably play wide receiver in college. He plays quarterback for his high school team. "I had 1,300 yards rushing and 22 touchdowns," said Williams. "I threw for 600 yards and 7 touchdowns. I had 3 punt returns for touchdowns. I think I scored 34 touchdowns total on the season."
Williams also has blazing speed. "I'm 6-1, about 190 pounds. My best 40 time is 4.27. I ran that at Texas camp last year."
His speed and play-making ability has landed him a host of offers. "I have about 20. I can't remember them all. Maryland, Tennessee, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Penn State, Miami are some of them."
At this point Williams says he's wide open. "I am wide open. I'm just listening to everyone. I plan to take all five of my visits before deciding."
Does he have an interest in Notre Dame? "Oh yes sir. It's a football school. They have good tradition there. They have a very good coach there right now. I'm very interested in Notre Dame."
What about camps? "I really don't know on camps. My Dad will probably decide on that. I do think we'll go visit a bunch of schools during the summer. I have no idea where yet."
Williams is also a solid student. "I have a 3.14 in my core g.p.a. I took the SAT and scored an 810. That was my first time taking it. I'll take it again. I plan on enrolling early in Jaunary."
Comments: Derrick comes from a very good family. His Dad remembered me and we talked for a while about both Dominique and Derrick. It all sounded good until he said he wanted to enroll early. I've heard he is one very explosive player. If he plans to enroll early, I doubt the Irish have any chance of landing him as they do not allow early enrollment at Notre Dame.
