Jake Christensen had an impressive junior season. He threw for 3,767 yards and 33 touchdowns while throwing only seven interceptions in 457 attempts.
The impressive numbers has put Christensen on the map as one of the top quarterbacks in the Midwest. "I have offers from Arkansas and Northwestern so far," said Christensen. "I'm hearing a lot from Iowa, Purdue, Michigan, Notre Dame."
Christensen recently attended the Notre Dame junior day. "It was great. I loved the atmopshere there. They have a lot of tradition there. It's what I thought it would be--it's Notre Dame--what more can you say?"
Jake also got to meet some of the coaches while at Notre Dame. "I did talk to Coach Willingham but it was briefly. I mainly talked to the quarterback coach and Coach Mattison who is my recruiter from Notre Dame. I liked them all."
The summer could be a busy time for Christensen. "I plan to go to the Purude Elite Quarterback Camp. I'm going to try to fit in the Nike Camp. I'll probably go to some one-day camps at Iowa, Arkansas, Michigan State--schools like that."
Christensen is also a solid student. "I have a 3.2 in my core. I haven't taken the test yet. I take it in March or May, I can't remember. I want to major in communications and broadcasting so that will be important."
A decision could come sooner for Christensen rather than later. "I'm not sure when I'll decide. I have a few favorites. If the right schools offer, I might jump on something early. We'll have to wait and see."
Who are the early favorites? "I'd say Purdue, Arkansas, Michigan State and Notre Dame."
We asked Jake what would be important to him when choosing a school? "I think the opportunity to play as soon as possible. Good academics that have my major. The coaches will be important, and just a good feel for the school when I'm there. The overall feel is what I'll look for. When I find that, I'll probably commit."
Comments: Jake is a great kid--very polite and articulate. He has some very impressive numbers as a quarterback. We don't believe the Irish are leading this race, although they are in it. We get the feeling Purdue might be the team to beat, although Jake never gave us that indication. He does seem pretty open right now to anyone. We'll have to wait and see what happens. I'd guess he'll decide early if he gets the offers he wants.
