Michigan Athlete Impressed with Irish

Grandville, MI is home to Andrew Hawken. The 6-2, 215-pound running back/linebacker prospect had a solid junior season and plenty of schools have taken notice. He also says he's interested in the Irish.

Andrew Hawken had an excellent junior season. "I rushed for 1,200 yards," said Hawken. "I think I had 7.7 yards per carry and 22 touchdowns. I also had about 500 yards receiving. I don't know my defensive stats."

So where are schools recruiting Hawken? "I really don't know. I haven't really asked them yet. If I had to guess, I'd say defense. I really don't care which side of the ball I play on."

So far, Hawken has one offer. "Purdue has offered me. Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Notre Dame, Iowa and Indiana are writing me the most."

Hawken recently went to junior day at Notre Dame and came away impressed with the Irish. "I was very impressed with everything there. I would've liked to see the facilities there, but I know they were under construction. I liked everything I saw. I also went to Michigan State junior day--I liked that too. I'm going to go to Michigan junior day as well."

The summer should be a busy time for Hawken. "I know I will attend camps. I just don't know where yet. I'll probably attend at least a few."

We asked Hawken if he had qualified at this point? "I have a 3.7 in core. I haven't taken my test yet."

We also asked which team he grew up cheering for? "I grew up a Wolverine fan."

Hawken also says he has no idea when he plans to make a decision. "I really haven't thought about that at all. I suppose it depends on what happens over the summer. I just want to get a feel for some schools and how I fit in there. I really don't know when I might decide."

Comments: The Irish had some impressive players in for junior day. Hawken seems wide open at this point. I do think the Irish will recruit him. Hopefully they can get him into camp this summer.
