Jared Hawkins had his junior season cut short with a hamstring injury last year. "I only played in seven games," said Hawkins. "I had 1,132 yards and 13 touchdowns. I averaged 6.8 yards per carry."
We asked Jared what kind of running back he is. "I'd say I see the field real well--I've got good vision. I'm able to pick my way through traffic well. I can also get yards after contact and use my speed to make the big plays."
The 5-10, 178-pound running back says he's getting some interest from schools across the country. "I'm getting mail from schools like Oklahoma State, Iowa, Wisconsin, TCU and Syracuse mostly."
Has he heard from Notre Dame? "They might've sent a letter or two, but not much. I'd be very interested. I'm interested in anyone that's interested in me."
Hawkins is also a good student. "I think I have a 3.2-3.4 in my core. I'm still waiting for the results on my test."
The summer will also be busy for Jared. "I plan on going to the Nike Camp. I'm also going to junior day at Baylor and Oklahoma State. I'll probably visit a few more schools over the summer."
We asked Jared what would be important when he makes his final decision. "Education will be the most important. I'll see how I fit in with the player and coaches. I guess it will be a feeling I get when I'm there."
Comments: Klein always has good athletes so we expect the Irish to stop by in May to take a look at Hawkins. We'll know more about him after May evaluations.
