Top Quarterback Keeping Options Open

East St. John high school in Reserve, LA is home to one of the top quarterbacks in the country. Many think 6-3, 210-pound quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will be one of the top quarterbacks in the country in 2004. What makes Perrilloux so special?

Ryan Perrilloux had a very impressive junior season. "I threw for 2,700 yards and 29 touchdowns," said Perrilloux. "I also ran for 1,500 yards and 23 touchdowns."

Perriloux says he spends a lot of time in the shotgun for East St. John's. "We run a four-wide, one back set and I'm in the shotgun all game. We were ranked the No.1 offense in the state. I didn't get to play the full games though because we were beating a lot of teams pretty bad."

Having both the ability to throw and run has intrigued the interest of many schools. "I have 35 offers already. Oregon, LSU, USC, Florida, Florida State, Texas, Ole Miss, UCLA, Texas A&M, there's a lot of them."

Has Perrilloux heard from Notre Dame? "No, I haven't heard anything from them. It's kind of strange. I like Notre Dame. They have a real good education there. They're on TV every game. I like Notre Dame a lot."

Perriloux also appears close to qualifying. "I have a 3.2 g.p.a. I took the test already. I scored a 15, but I'm taking that again."

The summer will be busy for Perriloux. "My coach said I can attend five camps. The first camp I'm going to is the Elite 11 camp. I'll also attend the LSU camp and the Texas camp. I'm not sure on the other two camps yet. I have a lot of offers for camps so I'm trying to decide."

Perrilloux won't be making an early decision. "I plan to take my time. I want to take all five of my visits and see what all the schools have to offer. I'm looking for a good quarterback coach who can help me get into the NFL. I'm also looking for a good education because that is important to me. I just want a school that can develop me as a quarterback."

Does Perrilloux have any leaders at this point? "You know, there are so many schools coming after me that it makes it hard for me to decide. I'm going to remain open to anyone and talk to as many as I can before I narrow it down. I'm really open right now."

Comments: Perrilloux will be one of the top arms in the country this year. He seems to be handling the attention very well. The Irish don't appear to be recruiting him at this point. We're surprised because he's supposed to be one of the best. We'll check back in a while and see if the Irish have started to recruit Perrilloux.
