Brice Beck, a 6-4, 230-pound drop back passer, had a sensational sophomore season (over 1,500 yards and 16 touchdown passes), but his junior season was cut short after three games by a dislocated shoulder. However, he threw for over 800 yards with 5 touchdown passes in those three games.
Fully healed from the injury, plenty of schools have taken interest. "Ole Miss, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Notre Dame, Memphis, Iowa State, Boise State, and Michigan have all been sending me mail", said Beck. "I'm getting handwritten mail from Ole Miss and Arkansas and I also have a verbal offer from East Carolina."
Is Notre Dame sending you handwritten mail? "Yes, they are. I have also spoken with Buzz Preston on the phone."
Beck attended the summer camp at Notre Dame last year and plans on attending this year's camp also. We asked him if he was interested in the Irish. "Very interested. I like the campus, coaches, facilities, and academics."
Does the Arkansas native plan to make an early decision? "If I find a good school then I could commit early." What are the important factors? "The coaching staff and the overall environment are the most important factors. Distance wouldn't be a problem", said Beck.
Does Beck have a leader at this point? "I'd say that Ole Miss and Notre Dame are the ones I'm most interested in, but Ole Miss is the leader right now. They've been showing me the most interest. My mom likes Ole Miss, and my dad attended the camp at Notre Dame with me, so he likes Notre Dame."
Comments: Beck said that he had a 2.4 grade point average and plans to take the ACT in April. It is very early in the race, but the Irish seem to be in the running with Beck. He's one to keep an eye on in the race to land another quarterback.
