Washington Linebacker Recruited by Irish

Anthony Felder already has offers in hand from co-national champion LSU and the Huskies of Washington. Does he have an interest in Notre Dame?

Anthony Felder, at 6-2, 220 pounds, plays inside linebacker for a Catholic school whose mascot is the Fighting Irish. I know what you're going to say, wishful thinking on the part of Notre Dame football fans. However, Felder does indeed play for the Fighting Irish…of O'Dea high school in Seattle, Washington. Could this be an omen of things to come?

Timed at 4.5 seconds in the forty, Felder clearly has speed to go along with his 220-pound frame. When asked to name his greatest strength, however, he replied, "off-the-ball quickness, quick reads and reactions."

This would help explain how Felder was able to set Odea's all-time single season tackle record of 146 during his junior campaign.

Has he heard from Notre Dame? "I've been getting a lot of handwritten letters from Notre Dame," said Felder. "Oregon and Nebraska are probably sending me the most mail overall, but Notre Dame has definitely sent the most handwritten letters. That feels good, because it's a little more personal. Anyone can send out a form letter."

Is he interested in the Irish? "I'm very interested in Notre Dame. I didn't really have a favorite team growing up, but I watched Notre Dame play a lot and I've always admired them. There is just so much tradition. After watching them on television and seeing the movies, it's hard not to like them."

Does Felder have a favorite yet? "No, I don't have any favorites, I'm really open right now. I don't really have a time frame for making a decision. I just want to stay open, take my time and not rush into anything."

As for what he'll be looking for when choosing a school, "I just want to make sure I'm not going to be uncomfortable wherever I decide to go," he said. "I want to make sure the school is the right fit for me in terms of atmosphere, academics and the football program…distance will not be much of a factor in my decision."

Felder has a self-reported grade point average of 3.2 and is set to take the tests in April and June. He is planning on attending the Nike camp in Eugene, Oregon this summer.

Comments: Anthony Felder is receiving a lot of interest from the Irish. His father mentioned that his linebacker coach was a Notre Dame alumnus. Currently, he's open to all schools and doesn't appear to have any favorites. However, he seemed to have a genuine interest in the Irish. We'll be checking back with him as the recruiting season unfolds.
