Defensive Tackle is a Hot Prospect

Scottsdale, Ariz. super defensive tackle is making a lot of noise in recruiting circles these days. His combination of size, speed, and smarts puts him right up there with the best in the country. Have the Irish been calling?

6-2, 290-pound defensive tackle Ekom Udofia had a huge junior season. He recorded 63 tackles, 12 sacks and 37 tackles for loss. He also had three forced fumbles and had three fumble recoveries. He has been timed at 4.8 in the 40.

Plenty of schools are hot after Udofia. "USC, UCLA, Arizona, Tennessee, Miami, Stanford, Georgia, Penn State, Texas, OU, LSU and Notre Dame," said Udofia when asked which schools were recruiting him.

When asked if the Irish have been recruiting him heavily, he mentioned that the Irish had "sent him a couple of letters" and "LSU is definitely recruiting me the hardest." We asked Ekom who his favorites were and he said, "my top 3 are USC, Miami and Tennessee."

Ekom has a brother that plays football for Stanford, but he said that won't factor in his decision, neither will distance from home. "I want to go to a school with a winning tradition and a place where I can play as a freshman".

"E.K." has a 4.1 GPA and will take his SAT in May.

Comments: He definitely sounded like he wants to hear more from the Irish, but right now the other schools have shown more interest. Considering his grades, we think he'll be a guy that the Irish should have on their radar.
