Another Moriarty?

Former Irish great, Larry Moriarty, has a son who is considered one of the top prospects in the state of California. Quarterback Kellan Moriarty has become a hot name among college coaches. The 6-0, 195-pound Moriarty ran a 4.4 at a recent Nike camp and plenty of schools have taken notice. Do the Irish have a shot at another Moriarty?

Kellan Moriarty had an impressive junior season under center. "I was 171-for-299 for 2,399 yards and 20 touchdowns," said Moriarty of his junior stats. "I also rushed for 566 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground."

Plenty of schools have taken notice and have been recruiting Moriarty heavily. "USC, Texas, Notre Dame, Miami, Boston College, quite a few," was his response when asked some of the top schools recruiting him. "I've been getting handwritten stuff from Miami, Notre Dame and Texas."

Moriarty also plans to hit a couple of camps this summer. "I plan on attending camps at Notre Dame and USC. Notre Dame has been sending me letters asking me to come to their camp."

The California native says he'll take his time before deciding. "I want to take all five visits to see exactly what each school brings to the table. I need to compare all schools. Then I will sit down with my dad and see what is best for me."

Where does Moriarty want to play in college? "I want to start out at quarterback. I just want a shot. If it doesn't work out, I'll gladly switch to cornerback."

Does Kellan have any favorites at this point? "In no particular order, USC, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Miami and Texas."

Comments: Moriarty told us he had a 3.7 and scored a 1020 on his S.A.T. He will certainly be a player the Irish will recruit heavily. We think it's a good sign he'll attend summer camp. Keep an eye on this player.
