Florida Quarterback Interested in Irish

Mainland high school in Daytona Beach, Fla. is home to quarterback Jonathan Garner. The 6-5, 210-pound Garner is receiving a lot of attention from some top schools across the country. Do the Irish have a shot at Garner?

Jonathan Garner didn't have the huge numbers of some of the other quarterbacks as a junior, but that hasn't stopped plenty of schools from taking notice. "I was 95-for-165 for 1,260 yards and 11 touchdowns," said Garner. "We ran a lot of running plays last year. We had a running back who ran for over 2,000 yards last year so we ran a lot."

Garner says he's been getting a lot of mail lately. "Stanford and Notre Dame sent me some handwritten stuff today. Ole Miss, Memphis, Michigan and USF have also been sending me handwritten stuff. The rest is typed letters."

Garner says he's also planning to get his name out there shortly by attending camps. "I'm going to the Florida junior day on April 10th. I'm also going to the Nike camp in Miami. We are heading up to Ole Miss for their spring game. I'll stop by Memphis on that trip. I also plan to camp at Stanford and Ole Miss. Our team camps at LSU this year. I might hit a couple more camps this summer."

Garner says he's going to take his time before making a decision on where he'll play football in college. "I want to take my time and see what is out there for me. The coaching staff will be a big factor to me. I want to play for some classy coaches. Team chemistry will also be important as well as the academics."

So what does Jonathan Garner do best out on the field? "I think my leadership. I'm very good at drop-back passing. I can take a hit, and I think my play action passing is very good."

Comments: Garner said he had a 4.2 on a 4.0 scale and scored an 1120 on his test. He's another quarterback to keep an eye on. He seemed very open at this point. I'd assume teams like Notre Dame and Stanford would have a real shot at Garner.
