Cortes Rice had three catches for 45 yards to go along with 550 yards on the ground and six touchdowns as a junior. He was timed in the 40 at 4.51 seconds at the recent USC combine.
"I've been getting handwritten letters from Notre Dame," said Rice. "I'm very interested in them. I love their tradition. They always play on national television and I like how they used their running back last year. They always gave it to him when the game was on the line."
Distance isn't going to be a factor in Rice's decision. "I might like to go back east for school," said Rice. "I used to live in Columbus, Ohio, and I wouldn't mind heading back to the Midwest."
Does he have a top 5? "My top 5 schools right now are UCLA, Notre Dame, Boston College, Ohio State and Arizona."
He doesn't have a clear-cut leader at this point and intends to take all of his official visits before making a decision. "I'm going to be looking at how the team does during the season and I'm also where I'll be able to get the most playing time. I'd like to be able to see the field early."
Rice has a self-reported 3.1 grade point average in his core and is scheduled to take the SAT in June. He plans to attend the Nike camp at Stanford this summer, and junior Days at USC and UCLA.
Comments:Rice seems to be pretty open at this point. He hasn't received any offers yet, but he does seem to be drawing interest from a number of schools. I got the impression that he liked the Irish, but probably no more or less than any of the other schools in his top 5. We'll keep an eye on him as the season progresses.
