6-3, 205-pound quarterback Kevin Lopina had an impressive junior campaign playing for a high school team that has won a national record 151 straight games. He threw for over 700 yards with four touchdowns and rushed for an addittional 350 yards in six games. Kevin noted,"we run the option offense, but it really is a more balanced run-pass attack." Lopina also ran a 4.6 40 timed at the Stanford Nike camp last year.
Many schools are interested in Lopina. "Notre Dame, Nebraska, Boston College, Arizona State, Texas A & M, UCLA and Oregon have been sending a lot of mail," said Lopina. "I'm getting hand written notes from Nebraska and Notre Dame. In fact, I just got my first offer from Nebraska today." He also noted,"we had four players from last years team go to Oregon so they are recruiting me very hard."
We asked Kevin about his core g.p.a. and he noted, "I have a 2.8 g.p.a. and I am taking my test in May."T
he Nothern California native said,"I have a lot of interst in Notre Dame and my top three choices are Notre Dame, Nebraska and Oregon." He also said that he plans to attend all three schools summer camps this year.
We asked him if distance from home would be a problem and Kevin said,"not a problem at all" and then noted when asked about what he is looking for in these schools,"I'm looking at acedemics first, then quarterback depth chartand the (quarterbacks) recruited last year."
Lopina said he wants to take atleast two or three official visits then "if one of my favorites offered and it felt right,I would committ."
Comments: Lopina plays from the top high school program in the country that has a lot of division one prospects. They play 2-3 national top teams from other states and are used to a lot of pressure. DeLasalle's offense wont dictate huge numbers for the quarterback, but there seems to be a good amount of interest from Notre Dame in Kevin. He sounded really excited when we talked about Notre Dame. Keep his name handy with the other top quaterbacks from California who are interested in Notre Dame.
