Wesley is Wide Open

Many eyes will be turning toward the state of Arizona this year for elite football talent. Many coaches will also be stopping through Chandler AZ, to take a look at Mekell Wesley, the do it all athlete from Hamilton HS.

Mekell Wesley, the 6'0 WR and Return Specialist from Chandler Arizona has been receiving a lot of interest lately. After having six TDs receiving, three kickoff return touchdowns, and one punt return for a touchdown as a junior, many programs have taken notice of this dynamic player. Though he doesn't have an offer yet, big time programs have been knocking. "I'm hearing from a lot of schools" said Wesley. "Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon State, and Arizona just to name a few" he continued.

How much attention has Wesley gotten from Notre Dame? "They've sent me some letters and a coach from Notre Dame called about a month ago. He just asked me a lot of question. He was basically interviewing me. We talked about football, and he likes me as a wide receiver or a cornerback."

Does it matter where Wesley plays? "I don't really care where I play, as long as I get a chance to start."

What type of factors will Wesley use to determine the school for him? "Honestly I haven't really given it much thought. I will just choose the school I feel most comfortable at."

Wesley hasn't finalized his summer plans just yet, but some things are in the works. "I'm not sure about camps yet. I know I'm going to a speed camp, but other than that I'm not sure."

Wesley seems to be a player the Fighting Irish are interested in. He has yet to take the SAT but plans to do so in May. Irisheyes will keep you updated.

Comments: Wesley has been described as a player with good speed which he plans to improve. Notre Dame is in need of fast athletes, and it appears that they are interested in Wesley. He's indicated that location will not be a factor in his decision, and doesn't care where he plays as long as he's on the field. What a great attitude.
