California Kicker Likes Irish

Jordan Congdon, 5-10 165 pounds is widely regarded as one of the nation's premiere place kicking recruits. He is receiving interest from co-national champions USC and LSU, along with Oklahoma, Texas and many of the nation's other top programs. Where do the Irish stand with this recruit?

As a sophomore at St. Augustine High School in San Diego, Congdon hit for 15 field goals on 18 attempts with a long of 47. As a junior, he connected on 7 of 10 field goal attempts with a long of 45 yards.

Is he interested in the Irish? The answer is a resounding…YES. When asked to name his favorite schools, the first name out of his mouth was Notre Dame. He's also high on USC, Texas, Cal, LSU, Colorado and Oregon.

It turns out Congdon has a few friends from Notre Dame. "I've been practicing with John Carney and Nick Setta," said Congdon. "John Carney has been talking to the coaches at Notre Dame for me."

Is he planning on attending any camps this summer? "I'm definitely going to camp at Notre Dame, other than that, I'm not sure. I'll probably camp at Texas and LSU also, but the only one that I'm sure of is Notre Dame."

What will Jordan be looking for in making his decision? "Academics will be the biggest factor. Also, the coaching staff is going to be very important."

Does he have a timeframe for reaching a decision? "No, I may commit early if one of my favorites offers, but I don't really have a timeframe for coming to a decision."

As for qualifying, Congdon will certainly have no trouble passing admissions. He has a 4.23 core GPA and recently scored a 1200 on his SAT.

Comments: Jordan Congdon is going to be one of the top place kickers in the country this recruiting season. In speaking with him, it's clear that he's very high on the Irish. If the Irish were to decide to offer a scholarship, I believe they would have an excellent chance of landing this recruit. Top Stories
