San Diego Linebacker Likely to Stay Home

Darren Childs, 6-1 215 lbs., recorded 115 tackles during his Junior season at Mission Bay High School in San Diego. He's been receiving interest from some of the nation's top programs. Has he heard from Notre Dame?

"I'd describe myself as a run stopping linebacker who loves to hit," said Childs when asked to describe his style of play.

Has he heard from the Irish? "I haven't received anything yet…I've mostly been getting mail from UCLA, Colorado, Arizona and schools on the west coast."

Would he be interested in the Irish if they began to recruit him? "Yeah, they're a good school."

Distance appears to be a big factor in Child's decision. "I want to stay close to home and I'm really just going to look at the school's campus and see where I think I fit in the best."

Does he have a favorite? "I don't have a favorite right now. I'm really open. My top schools at the moment are USC, UCLA, San Diego State and Cal."

Darren has a self-reported 3.17 GPA. He took the test on April 3 and is waiting for the results.

Comments: Darren Childs seems to be homeward bound. He's listing San Diego State as one of his favorites, despite receiving interest from many more prestigious programs. This shows me that he really wants to stay close to home. I'd look for one of the Southern California schools to secure his services with an offer.
