Craven Returns From Visit to South Bend

Fort Wayne, Ind. defensive end Travis Craven recently returned for an unofficial visit to Notre Dame to take in a spring practice. What did he think of South Bend? What did the coaches tell him? Do the Irish have a shot at Craven?

"It went real well," said Travis Craven of his unofficial visit to Notre Dame on Monday. "I got up there at about 2:30 PM and hung out with Coach Gonzalez. We then went in to Coach McDonnel's office and talked to him. He told me that he'd be stopping by my school to watch me in track. He told me they normally don't offer right away, but to remain patient."

Craven says he then went on a campus tour. "They took us all around Notre Dame. We got to check out the new facilities. I really liked what they were doing with that. They showed us a virtual tour DVD of what it would look like."

Craven then went to watch practice where he got to speak with Coach Willingham. "He talked to us for about a half hour. He told me what type of players he's look for. He was a real nice guy. I really enjoyed talking with him."

So where does that leave the Irish? "They're one of my top schools . I've been checking out a bunch of schools lately. I like Notre Dame a lot."

Craven says he's been making the rounds lately at a number of schools. "Two weeks ago I went to see Illinois and Nothern Illinois. I've been to Bowling Green and Michigan. I'm heading to Michigan State today to check out a practice."

The summer will also be busy for Craven. "I plan to go to camp at Miami of Ohio, Bowling Green and Northwestern. I just got something from Notre Dame yesterday about their camp on June 29th so I'll go to that. I might camp at Michigan State as well."

Comments: Craven appeared to enjoy his trip to Notre Dame a lot. We expect the Irish to be in the race if they decide to recruit Craven heavily. He is rumored to be one of the better players in Indiana this season and one worth keeping an eye on.
