Derek Pegues hasn't played much defense, but most schools think he'll make a fine cornerback in college. "I've never played much defense," said Pegues. "I'm a quarterback in high school. I rushed for 1,568 yards and 33 touchdowns, and I threw for 1,160 yards and 13 touchdowns last year."
Despite playing quarterback, most schools have been recruiting Pegues as a corner. "Most of them say corner," Pegues said. "I don't mind switching. I want to play corner in college."
Pegues already has three offers under his belt. "Michigan, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State have offered me. Notre Dame, Auburn and Tennesee are also recruiting me hard."
Does Pegues have an interest in Notre Dame? "Yeah, it's Notre Dame. I'm definitely interested in them."
Pegues says he also plans to visit Notre Dame this summer. "I plan on going to camps at Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Notre Dame this summer. I've been to Ole Miss already for the spring game. I liked it there. I had a good time."
Recruiting nuts will have to wait a while to find out where Pegues will ultimately end up. "I won't decide until late. I want to take all my visits before I decide. I'm loooking for a great coaching staff. I'm also looking for a school with good academics and good football."
Pegues has a self-reported 3.0 g.p.a and recently scored an 18 on his ACT.
Comments: Pegues is said to be one heck of an athlete and we expect many more scholarships to come for him. The Irish appear to be recruiting him heavily so he's another to keep an eye on.
