Maurice Wells has added another award to his long list of accolades. "I just found out I won the M.V.P. award for the Nike camp I attended last weekend," said Wells. "We ran our 40 times on grass and I ran a 4.44. I wasn't happy with that time but they said it was a good time."
Wells has also already logged 13 offers from schools from across the country. "I have 11 in writing and 13 total," he said. "USC, Ohio State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke, Florida State, Purdue, Michigan State, Notre Dame, I can't remember the others right now."
Have the Irish offered in writing? "Yeah, they have," Wells said. "They looked it over and said I qualified so now I have an offer in writing from them. Their coach was at the Nike camp to watch me and he stopped by the school last week."
Is Wells interested in Notre Dame? "Yeah, I like Notre Dame a lot," Wells said. "My coach thinks it would be a good school for me. They are on national television every week. I like their tradition. I like Notre Dame a lot."
Besides Notre Dame, plenty of other schools have been in contact with Wells. "Ohio State, Duke, USC, Oklahoma State and Georgia Tech have called me so far," said Wells.
Wells also said he doesn't mind leaving home for school. "Leaving is not a problem," he said. "I've only lived in Florida for four years. My Dad is in the military so I've lived in a lot of different places. I've lived in Maryland mostly and Ohio so it doesn't matter to me where I go to school."
The recruiting battle will go down to the wire to sign this star player. "I plan on going down to the last day," he said. "I'll take all my visits before I decide."
Comments: The Irish continue to stay in the race for Wells. The real test will be during the season. He seems to have a genuine interest and seems pretty wide open at this point.
