Rider high school star David Nelson had a monster junior season. "I think I had 50 catches for 1,079 yards and 14 touchdowns," said Nelson. "My best time is a 4.45 in the 40."
Plenty of schools are after Nelson already. "Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Texas A&M, SMU, Duke, Kansas and Purdue have offered," Nelson said. "Quite a few others are recruiting me right now."
The Irish are also in hot pursuit of Nelson. "Coach Mattison writes me all the time," said Nelson. "He called me on May 3rd and he came by the school yesterday. I couldn't really talk to him so I've been trying to get ahold of him today so I can more details from him."
The details? "I plan on going to Notre Dame camp on June 29th," he said. "I'm also going to Oklahoma camp and Texas camp."
Is Nelson interested in Notre Dame? "Oh yeah, I really like their tradition there," said Nelson. "I also like their coaching staff. I'm a fan of Tyrone Willingham. They also have excellent academics."
Academics is another area Nelson excels. "I have a 3.9 in core," he said. "I took the test, but I haven't received my score yet."
When will Nelson be deciding? "I'd like to decide sometime before my senior season so I can enjoy it," said Nelson. "If it's not clear, I'll take some official visits before deciding. I do know I'll have a top five by then."
Speaking of a top five, Nelson gave us his latest top five. "I'd say Kansas State and Texas A&M because they've offered," said Nelson. I plan to check out Oklahoma State. Notre Dame is at the top. I also like Nebraska. I like the way they are going with their program."
Comments: Keep an eye on this top player. The Irish are recruiting him pretty hard and he appears strongly interested in Notre Dame. I'd bet Nelson receives an offer from Notre Dame in the near future.
