New Jersey Offensive Lineman up to 26 offers

Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J. has long produced top talent for college coaches across the country. This year is no different with another batch of Don Bosco stars expected to sign division one scholarships. Offensive lineman Brian Roche will have plenty of schools to choose from when he makes his decision. The 6-5, 285-pound tackle prospect holds 26 offers and counting. The Irish have offered Roche, what are his thoughts on Notre Dame?

Offensive tackle prospect Brian Roche has seen his stock take off this spring. "I have 26 offers now I believe," said Roche. "Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Texas, Oklahoma and Stanford are some of the more recent offers."

Roche says he's still waiting for the written word from Notre Dame. "I talked to Coach Simmons and he said it would be coming shortly," Roche said.

The phone has also been ringing at the Roche home. "I get about one or two calls a night from coaches. I don't know how many I miss because I usually don't get home until after 8 PM."

Is Roche interested in Notre Dame? "Oh yeah, I grew up a big Irish fan--I'm Irish/Catholic," said Roche. "I really don't know that much about Notre Dame other than what I've heard from some players that go there. I spoke to Ryan Grant about it this week. I plan on going there this summer to check it out."

The summer will be busy time for Roche. "I'm not going to any camps, but I'll definitely visit Notre Dame and Wisconsin this summer," Roche said. "I also might go see Michigan and Michigan State and maybe Ohio State."

Roche says most schools are recruiting him as a tackle. "Most say tackle," he said. "They say I can play anything, but tackle is where most want me. They want me to play left tackle. I'd say I'm probably equally as good at pass blocking as I am run blocking. I might be a little better at pass blocking, but I think I run block pretty well."

Don't expect a decision any time soon from Roche. "I'm not going to rush anything," he said. "When I know, I'll just commit. There is no need to drag it out. I'm looking for a school that is going to win. There's a good chance that I'll never lose a game in high school so I don't want to go to a school that isn't going to win and isn't committed to winning.

"I think the coaching staff will be important," said Roche when asked what factors he'll look at when he chooses a school. "Stability in the coaching staff will be important. Also, it has to be a good school. That peice of paper I get will have to mean something."

Academics are important to Roche as currently sits with a 3.6 core g.p.a. and a 1280 score on his SAT.

Comments: Roche says he's wide open at this point. He commented that he had planned to commit early, but with so many schools offering, he's had to push that back to evaluate all of his choices. He seems pretty interested in Notre Dame at this point, but we'll get a better idea after he takes an unofficial visit. He's obviously one of the better offensive tackles in the country so he'll be an important recruit for the Irish. Top Stories
