Averell Spicer recorded 14 sacks and 60 tackles as a Junior in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He currently holds written offers from USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Duke, Kansas State and Nebraska.
Has he heard from Notre Dame? "Yeah, they've been sending me letters."
Is he interested in the Irish? "Yeah, it's a nice school."
Has he set a timeframe for reaching a decision? "I haven't decided yet. I don't want to stress myself out right now thinking about that stuff. I don't want to narrow anything down at this point.
Is distance going to be a factor? "No, distance isn't going to be a factor at all."
Spicer has a self-reported 2.8 grade point average and he received a 900 on his first attempt at the SAT. He is still awaiting his results from the second time he took the test.
Comments: Spicer is widely regarded to be one of the top defensive end prospects in the country. He claims to have no favorites at the moment and is very open. Currently, Notre Dame isn't pressing as hard as some schools. However, there may still be time for the Irish to jump in the picture, given the fact that Spicer has not yet begun to think about when he wants to start narrowing things down or make a decision. IrishEyes will keep an eye on this hot prospect as the recruiting season unfolds.
