Quarterback Catching Attention

West Hills, Ca. is home to an up and coming quarterback looking to make an impression with college coaches. Chris Turner might not be as popular as other quarterback from the Southern California region, but he's definitely starting to change all that. Irish Eyes caught up him to see where he stands in the recruiting process.

Chaminade College Prep quarterback Chris Turner plans on having a busy summer to impress coaches. "I'll be at the Nike Camp this weekend up in Stanford," he said. "I plan to also attend the Notre Dame and Illinois camps as well."

Although he doesn't play for a perennial powerhouse high school that would garner more attention, Chris is slowly starting to turn heads. "I have offers from Illinois, UNLV, and Boise State right now," he confessed. "I am also being recruited right now by Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Florida."

Though he hasn't gotten a call from Notre Dame, the Irish are definitely interested in him. "I get a lot of handwritten letters from them," he said. "I haven't gotten a phone call, just lots of handwritten letters and emails. Coach Diedrick wrote me that he'll be visiting the 28th."

Irish Eyes asked if he was interested in Notre Dame as well. "Absolutely, I grew up an Irish fan," he said. "I always watched them when I was growing up, so when they started recruiting me, I was really excited. They are definitely at the top of my list."

And what is the best trait he has as a quarterback? "Definitely, my poise in the pocket," he said. "I'm very calm, so I never get too excited. It helps me to stay focus and allows me to better pick apart defenses."

Chris is still not resting on his laurels. He's focused on improving himself. "I'm really working on my speed right now," he said. "I'm mostly known as a dropback passer, but I want to be a running threat as well."

Comment: At 6'4" and 200lbs, Chris Turner is definitely the physical prototype of what the Irish are looking for in a quarterback and, with holding every school passing record with 3400 yards passing and 30 touchdowns, he certainly warrants a strong look. He makes no bones about being interested in the Irish, the big question now is how the 28th goes, with Coach Diedrick coming to evaluate him and when he goes to the Notre Dame camp. Irish Eyes will be keeping a close eye on Chris as recruiting progresses.
