Irish Offer Texas Wide Receiver

Wichita Falls, Tex. wide receiver prospect David Nelson has seen his stock skyrocket over the last month. Nelson currently holds 12 offers, and an offer recently came from Notre Dame. What did Nelson think of the Irish offer? Where do the Irish stand with this rising star?

The month of May has been very busy for David Nelson. "I've gotten a lot of calls from schools," said Nelson. "A lot of schools have been by my school. I'm up to 12-13 offers now."

Nelson's list of offers is pretty impressive. "Texas A&M, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Colorado, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, Duke, SMU, those are some of them," said Nelson.

We asked David what he thought of the Irish offer. "I was real excited," he said. "Notre Dame is one of the most prestigous universities in the country--it was a good honor. My family was very excited for me. My mom has been a big Notre Dame fan for a long time. My dad knows the history of Notre Dame and what that means. They were all very excited for me."

Nelson says he's going to be hitting the road soon and this summer to check out all of his favorites. "I'm going to Stillwater this week and then I'll be at Nebraska on Saturday," said Nelson. "I plan to visit all my top schools this summer to check them out. I know I'll be going to Notre Dame around the 16th of June for an unofficial visit."

Nelson did give us a list of some of his top schools. "Notre Dame, Nebraska, Oklahom State, Kansas State and A&M right now," Nelson said. "That might change. There are a number of schools that I'm still interested in. LSU has said they might offer real soon. I'm going to Oklahoma camp on Jun 8th and Texas camp on June 6th and they might offer after camp."

The plan is to decide early for Nelson. "I still want to decide early. That is why we are going to see all the schools this summer. I hope to have a decision before the end of the summer."

Comments: The Irish appear very much in the race for Nelson. I've seen Nelson's film and he is impressive. He reminds me a lot of Roy Williams of Texas, but not quite as fast. He's a great athlete that I expect to have quite a few offers when all is said and done. The Irish appear hot on his trail. We'll know more after he visits Notre Dame this June. Top Stories
