Texas Defensive End Has Couple of Offers

Dallas, Texas is the home of Sean Carney. The 6-3, 240 pound defensive end already has a couple of offers on the table and more schools could be extending one soon. Is Notre Dame one of those interested? Irish Eyes found out.

Sean Carney caused many sleepless nights for quarterbacks that faced Jesuit Prep last season. The big defensive end recorded 49 tackles, eight sacks, 12 quarterback pressures, and had 13 tackles for loss.

Those impressive stats have caused schools to take notice. "So far, Baylor and Wyoming have given me offers," said Carney. "Utah and Maryland have said that they are close to offering. Maryland likes me as an outside linebacker/defensive end."

Those schools aren't the only ones interested in Carney, "Notre Dame, Iowa State, SMU, and Northwestern are all sending me a lot of mail and keeping in constant contact."

After attending Notre Dame's Junior Day and the Adidas Camp that was held at Notre Dame, Carney came away impressed, "I'm definitely interested in Notre Dame," said Carney.

What are some of the things that he likes about the Irish? "Their tradition is impressive. I also like their campus. I grew up liking Notre Dame, so there's a lot that I like about them."

Which Notre Dame coach is recruiting him? "Coach (Greg) Mattison has been calling me and sending me emails."

Has Mattison said anything about a potential offer? "He said that they could offer in the future. I'm going to their summer camp June 27th-30th, so I could walk away with something after that. We'll see," said Carney.

Besides going to Notre Dame's camp this summer, Carney has more camp plans, "I'll be attending Duke, Northwestern, and maybe Stanford."

"I'm also going to make some unofficial visits this summer. I've already been to Notre Dame, Northwestern, TCU, SMU, and Iowa," said Carney. "I'm going to get as much traveling in as possible."

What is Carney looking for in a school? "I'm trying to find a school that is well rounded in academics and athletics. That's real important to my family and me. I don't know if I'll play in the NFL, so I want to walk away with something that I can use."

Carney doesn't plan on making a decision anytime soon, "I'm going to wait until after my football season is finished before I make a decision," said Carney.

Which schools are his favorites right now? "Notre Dame, Northwestern, Duke, Stanford, and Penn State are my top five." What about his parents? "My mom likes Stanford and my step-dad likes Notre Dame."

Carney has a self reported 3.6 GPA and scored an 1120 on the SAT.

Comments: Carney seemed real interested in Notre Dame. He grew up cheering for the Irish, so Notre Dame has that going for them. We should know more about ND's interest after the summer camp. If they offer Carney, the Irish stand a good chance of landing him.
