Jones Close to Getting First Offer

Ohio athlete Brad Jones is close to landing his first offer. The 6-3, 190-pound Canton, Ohio native has had plenty of schools stop by to take a look at Jones. Offers should soon be following for Jones. Are the Irish still interested in Jones? Is Jones still interested in Notre Dame?

Brad Jones says a few schools appear close to offering him. "Vanderbilt said if I scored a 19 on my ACT, they'd be offering me," said Jones. "The Citadel said that an offer should be coming real soon. Bowling Green is also very interested."

A number of schools have also called Jones. "Bowling Green, Michigan, Ohio State, Ohio University, West Virginia and U. Conn. have called me so far."

We asked Jones what position most schools are recruiting him to play. "Most are saying defensive back or athlete," said Jones. "I hope to show them I'll be more physical this year."

Jones says he'll likely focus on track this summer. "I've been running track and I think I'll work on that this summer," Jones said. "I won the district title in the 100 and 200 and we also won the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200. My best time is 10.7 in the 100 and 21.7 in the 200."

The plan is still to commit early according to Jones. "I wanted to verbal early, but a few schools have said they want to check out my first couple of games. I'll probably commit some time in the first month of my season."

Pittsburgh and Notre Dame were high on his last last time we spoke with Jones. We asked if that were still true. "I liked Pitt a lot and Notre Dame was right up there," said Jones. "Lately though, Michigan has been showing more interest than both of them. Pitt and Notre Dame haven't shown me as much attention as I'd like recently so I'm not sure where I stand with them. I guess I'm pretty open right now."

Jones has a self-reported 2.7 in his core and scored a 16 on his first attempt on his ACT. He said he's scheduled to take the test again in June.

Comments: The Irish were in good shape with Jones. They've seemed to slip a bit. His SAT score likely is the reason. We'll keep and eye on Jones to see if the Irish start recruiting Jones more heavily.
