The Irish will likely face Kent State ace Andy Sonnanstine (10-4, 2.67 ERA) on Thursday. Sonnastine threw two complete games in the Mid-American tournament to advance Kent State to the NCAA tournament.
Kent State's team ERA is 3.94 on the year.
The Golden Flashes hold a .297 team batting average and are led by senior Chad Kinyon (.373, 15 HR, 64 RBI).
Kent State finished 14-10 in the Mid-American conference this season and have won seven out of their last 10 games, including a 3-1 recording the Mid-American tournament.
California, Irvine enters the regional losing eight out of their last 11 games including being swept by Washington this weekend.
The Anteaters have just a .288 team batting average, but do sport an impressive 3.60 team ERA.
The Arizona Wildcats enter the regional winning six out of their last 10 games including taking 2-of-3 from Stanford and USC, and dropping 2-of-3 to Arizona State.
The Wildcats have a .309 team batting average and have hit 53 homers on the season. They also have nine players hitting over .300 on the season.
Their pitching has given up some runs as the staff has a 5.37 ERA.
If the Irish advance, they will likely end up playing Stanford in a super regional. The Cardinal are ranked as the No. 5 national seed in the NCAA tournament and will likely host the super regional if they advance.
