Herring Up to Seven Offers

The buzz about Melbourne, Fla. native Ray Herring is starting to be heard nationally. Herring has seven offers already from schools all across the country. The 5-11, 200-pound safety prospect should have more offers coming soon. The Irish have offered Herring. What are his thoughts on Notre Dame and recruiting so far?

Ray Herring has had a busy month of May. "I now have offers from Notre Dame, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Boston College and North Carolina," said Herring. "I'm waiting on Texas, they said they're offering and UCLA's should be here tomorrow."

The Irish have offered Herring in writing. "It came in the mail a while ago," said Herring of the Notre Dame offer. "I was excited about getting that one. Coach Miles came by to visit the school, but I wasn't able to talk to him. I know he tried to call me, too, but I wasn't home."

We asked Herring if any teams had been standing out so far. "Notre Dame stands out," Herring said. "I like them a lot. Everybody is else is about the same."

Herring says he hasn't finalized his summer plans as of yet. "I might take a couple of unofficial visits," said Herring. "I'm not sure where. I also might camp at Florida and Miami."

Herring says he also plans to take his time before deciding. "I plan to take all my visits," he said. Academics will be the most important factor. That, and the chance to play early."

Most schools are recruiting Herring as a free safety according to him. "Everyone is saying free safety which I like. I'm a hard hitter and I love to hit. Everyone comments on that. I also play the ball well when it's in the air."

Comments: The Irish appear to be in pretty good shape with Herring right now. It sounds like they haven't really spoken to him at this point either. He's obviously a top target so keep an eye on him.
