Dimitri Stewart could be the top recruit in the country. "Right now I have 57 offers," said Stewart. "I can't name them all. Pretty much every top team in the country has offered me."
Colleges coaches have flocked to Northeast high school is Oakland, Fla. to take a look at Stewart. "We had a bunch of schools stop by," said Stewart. "I couldn't really talk to them so I didn't get a chance to really meet them. I also got a lot of phone calls. It's died down now that May is over."
One school that is recruiting Stewart heavily is Notre Dame. "Yeah, they've offered," said Stewart. "I've talked to them as well. They told me that I was their No. 1 recruit. I'm supposed to call Coach Willingham on Tuesday. We've set up a time for me to speak to him so I'm excited about that."
Is Stewart interested in Notre Dame? "Oh yeah, they are in my top five," said Stewart. "My top five would be Miami, Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma and Ohio State."
Dimitri says he'll likely make a couple of camps this summer. "I'll probably go to two camps," Stewart said. "I think I'll go to Miami camp. I'm not sure on the other one yet."
Stewart says he won't be deciding soon. "I'll probably take my visits and decide on the last day," Stewart said. "I don't know though. This could get kind of hectic. We'll see, but that is the plan."
Education tops the list of most important factors for Stewart. "Education comes first for me so I'll look for a strong academic school. I'll then look for a chance for some early playing time. Then it will be an overall feeling of being comfortable around the coaches and players."
We asked Stewart if he is open to leaving the state to go to school. "I'm open to anything," he said. "I don't mind leaving at all. My Mom said she doesn't mind, either. She doesn't really have any favorites. She doesn't know that much about football to really have any favorites right now."
Stewart has a self-reported 3.2 in his core and is set to take the ACT this weekend.
Comments: The Irish do appear to have a shot at Stewart, but we believe Miami will be the team to beat. He said he's willing to leave the state so that's one battle already won. Still, we think Miami will be the team to beat for his signature.
