Sacred Heart Griffin quarterback Eric Peterman is a dual threat. As a junior, he threw for over 1,600 yards, rushed for over 1,700 yards, and accounted for 52 touchdowns. Those gaudy numbers would cause any coach to take notice. Not surprisingly, Peterman has already received four offers.
Is he interested in Notre Dame? "Definitely. I like their tradition and the great academics they have," he said.
Which ND coach does he talk to the most? "I've talked to Coach (Greg) Mattison. We exchange email a lot," Peterman said.
Peterman says the Irish said they wanted to look at him at camp before offering. "(Mattison) said that they're leaning towards me being a safety more than a quarterback," said Peterman. "I'm going to camp at Notre Dame later this summer, so that's something we will discuss when I'm there."
The other schools are up in the air as to which position is best for Peterman. "It's really 50/50 between quarterback and defensive back," Peterman said. "Most schools are saying that they'll give me a shot at quarterback and if that doesn't work out, then they'll look at me as a defensive back or as an athlete."
Which position does Peterson prefer? "Quarterback," he said. "I'd like to be given a shot to see what I can do."
Notre Dame won't be the only camp he plans on attending, "I've already been to the Nike Camp at Iowa and the EA Sports camp," Peterman said. "I'm going to Northwestern's camp on Friday and Iowa's camp on Monday.
"I've also already made unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Iowa, Northwestern, and Illinois."
What is Peterman looking for in a school? "Academics are number one," he said. "The people and the environment at the school are also important. Athletics will also factor into it, too."
An early decision could be on the way for Peterman. "I would like to get it out of the way before the season starts, said Peterman. "That way I won't have to worry about it. I want to make the right decision, though, so it could possibly be after the season."
Would distance factor into his decision? "Not so much, maybe a little bit," he said. "I would like to stay in the Midwest, but it's not a huge issue."
Peterman did give us a list of his top schools at the present time. "Notre Dame, Iowa, Northwestern, Air Force, and Indiana," he said.
What about his parents? "I think they like Notre Dame," said Peterman. "They don't want me to go too far from home."
Eric is solid in the classroom with a self-reported 4.1 GPA and a 25 on the ACT.
Comments: Peterman has a strong interest in Notre Dame. The Irish are already at the top of his list, and if they offer, they have a great chance of landing him. The only question would be if he would be willing to move to safety, like the Irish coaching staff wants; or if he would rather take another school's offer to play quarterback. Irish Eyes will be sure to let you know any further developments.
