Able to run the forty in 4.4, Southside high school's Slick Shelley has a very fitting first name. The "slick" wide out hauled in 65 catches for 886 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior. Not surprisingly, Shelley already has four offers.
"Arkansas, Tennessee, LSU, and Tulsa have already offered," said Shelley. "Iowa, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame, and Michigan are the other schools that are recruiting me."
Is he interested in Notre Dame? "Yes, I am. They are a very good school, both in academics and in football," he said.
Has Notre Dame said anything to Shelley about a potential offer? "No, not yet," Shelley said. "They are sending me a lot of mail and writing me a lot. They are staying in contact, trying to recruit me. They've talked to my coach a lot."
What are Shelley's summer camp plans? "I went to Tulsa's camp last week," said Shelley. "That was a team camp and that's the only one I'm going to this summer. I'm not going to take any visits until the school year."
Once he starts taking those visits, don't expect an early decision. "I'm going to take all five of my visits and then decide from there," said Shelley.
What is Shelley looking for in a school? "Academics, how the team's offensive system works, and the schools facilities are all important," said Shelley.
Does Shelley have any favorites at the present time? "No, I don't have any favorites. I'm going to let my options stay wide open," he said.
Would distance from home play a factor? "No, not at all," said Shelley.
Shelley has a self reported 3.0 GPA and made a 16 on the ACT the first time he took it.
Comments: Shelley gave no indication that he's leaning towards one school over another. He really is wide open to the whole process right now. Notre Dame is staying in contact, but his test score is probably the reason they haven't offered yet. If he's able to raise his score, then an offer could come. Irish Eyes will let you know if anything changes.
