Brendan Deska is quickly becoming a hot commodity with schools across the nation. The Olympia high school defensive end has already received an impressive list of offers.
"Wake Forest, Duke, Northwestern, Boston College, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Mississippi State, East Carolina, Louisville, Temple, and Stanford (verbal offer) all have offered me," said Deska.
"Notre Dame, Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida State are other schools that are recruiting me, but haven't offered, yet," he said. "My coach said that he's been hearing a lot from Florida State, lately."
Is Deska interested in the Irish? "Definitely. They have a good tradition and their academics are impressive," he said. "One of my former coaches used to go up there a lot and he's told me great things about the place."
Deska said that the Irish wanted to see him at camp before offering, "They called in May and said that they were interested in me," said Deska. "They wanted to see me at their camp and get my times and see me perform. I'm leaving for their camp tomorrow morning."
Deska has already had a busy summer and he plans on it staying that way. "I've already been to visit North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, Wake Forest, and Northwestern.
"Then two days after I get back from Notre Dame, I'm going out to Stanford. I'm also going to Boston College in August for an official visit," said Deska.
Since he is taking all these visits during the summer, is he hoping that he'll be able to make an early decision? "I plan on making an early decision," said Deska. "Early on in the season, or maybe even before the season starts."
What is Deska looking for in a school? "Academics, a good football program, making sure I fit in with the team, and making sure that I get along with the coaching staff," said Deska.
We asked Deska if he had any favorites, "Out of the schools that have offered me, Northwestern, Boston College, Maryland, Stanford, and Wake Forest," he said. "I also like Notre Dame and Georgia."
Do his parents have a preference? "Not really," said Deska. "They just want a school that has good academics."
Deska is also solid in the classroom with an 1170 on the SAT and a 3.66 core GPA.
Comments: We won't have to wait long to find out if Notre Dame is going to offer Deska. If the Irish like what they see at the camp this week, then he could be going back home with an offer. If the Irish do offer, they should be in it until the end with him. With Deska wanting to commit early, he would be a nice early pick up for Notre Dame. Irish Eyes will be sure to keep you informed.
