Hiben's Having a Big Spring

The Spring has been good for Joey Hiben, the 6'4 230lb TE from Waconia, Minnesota. He's been receiving a lot of attention from schools nationwide, and his offer list is beginning to swell. Hiben will be making a couple stops this summer for camps to continue to impress. Will South Bend be one of his stops?

"Yes, I'm going to Notre Dame's camp on the 29th" said Joey Hiben. Hiben plans to make a few other stops as well. "I'll also be attending camps at Boston College, Stanford, and Minnesota's one day camp."

Hiben has been receiving nation wide attention after finishing his junior season with nine receptions for 227 yards and three TDs, and 43 tackles and five sacks from his defensive end position. "I have offers from Colorado, Northwestern, Stanford, Purdue, Boston College, Missouri, Indiana, Kansas, UCF, and Texas Tech. Most schools have been recruiting me for Tight End, but some for defense as well. I don't really have a preference but my main focus has been at Tight End. You can't go wrong at either position though." said Hiben.

With such a wide array of schools recruiting him, has Hiben figured out a top five yet? "I guess my top five would be Notre Dame, Stanford, Purdue, Minnesota, and Michigan."

Has he been hearing a lot from Notre Dame? "I talk to coach Mattison a lot. He's awesome. They haven't offered me yet, but I'm going to the camp and they'll see me."

When does Hiben want to commit? "I'd like to decide soon, but it doesnt look like it's going to happen. I think I'll take a couple official visits in the fall."

Hiben has a 3.7 GPA and has a 23 ACT score, and 1120 SAT score.

Comments: Hiben was a real pleasure to talk to. Very down to earth, and really likes Notre Dame. He's very fond of Coach Greg Mattison. They seem to have a good bond. Much more will be known after he returns from Notre Dame camp. The Irish and stanford appear to be his front runners at the moment, and with an offer, Notre Dame could move into the drivers seat. Hiben encouraged IrishEyes to call back when he returns from camp. We'll do just that.
