Mark Sanchez returned from his Midwest trip impressed with both Notre Dame and Ohio State. Sanchez had a lot of good things to say about both schools.
"Notre Dame was more than I expected," said Sanchez. "The stadium was amazing. There is so much tradition there. The tunnel walk is just awesome. Their academics are very strong and they made that even more clear on this trip."
Sanchez said he spent a great deal of time with Tyrone Willingham and Kent Baer. "Coach Willingham is just a great guy," said Sanchez. "He made it very clear that they wanted to win and just needed a few more players to make that happen. We also spent a lot of time with coach Baer--my recruiting coach. The whole experience was awesome."
The only disappointment, according to Sanchez, was the fact that they didn't get the chance to speak with offensive coordinator and quarterback coach Bill Diedrick. "I was disappointed in that," said Sanchez. "We arrived late and we were supposed to meet him the day before. He could be there the next day. That was the only shortcoming, but that wasn't their fault."
Ohio State also impressed Sanchez. "It was pretty much the same as Notre Dame," said Sanchez. "Their stadium is amazing. Their campus is huge. I really liked speaking with the coaches there. I like the visit there a lot."
A decision could be coming this summer. "Summer sounds about right," said Sanchez. "We'd like to wait until February, but I don't think we can do that with the way recruiting is now. We'll see what happens."
Did the Irish improve their chances with this recent visit? "I'd say definitely. Notre Dame isn't an option right now. They haven't offered me, but if they do, they definitely impressed me. We'll wait and see what happens."
Comments: The Irish appeared to do all they could to state their case. It's hard to say where Notre Dame--or any school--stands with Sanchez at the moment. He'll be deciding soon, and someone will land one heck of a quarterback. We'll keep an eye on what is happening with Sanchez and update you as soon as we hear anything new.
