David Nelson said he loved his visit to Notre Dame. "It went really well," said Nelson. "It was very organized. The coaching staff was really nice. They have a beautiful campus, and coach Willingham is just a class act. I love it there."
Nelson said he spent a lot of time getting to know both the coaches and the players. "I talked to Brady Quinn a lot," said Nelson. "I was obviously interested in talking to him. I talked to Rhema McKnight a couple of time. The big receiver, Stovall, Brandon Hoyte, I talked to a lot of their starters there, and nobody had a bad thing to say about anything. They let me know how each coach was and what to expect. All the players seemed to really like it there, and like their coaches."
The Irish players impressed Nelson, but Willingham was the most impressive. "He's a guy you know you can trust," said Nelson of Willingham. "You just look at him and you know he's telling you the truth. We spent like an hour and a half to two hours talking to him. We didn't talk about football that much. We spoke about the type of players he wants, and the type of individuals he wants, and how he needs guys he can trust on the field. We talked about football for probably 20 minutes, that was it."
Nelson has mentioned that he would make an early decision so we asked if that was still the plan. "Yeah, I'll probably decide in two to three weeks," said Nelson. "I'm down to Notre Dame, Nebraska and Kansas State right now. I'll probably decide in two or three weeks."
Nelson made the trip with his mom who also left Notre Dame very impressed. "My mom has been a Notre Dame fan here whole life. Her whole family are Catholic. When Notre Dame offered me, that was it, that is where she wanted me to go. She just loved it there."
We asked Nelson if he had a leader at this point. "Yeah, it would probably be Notre Dame. I really enjoyed it there. I felt like I fit in well with the players and the coaches there."
Nelson said there was one last thing that needed to be done before he could make his final decision. "My Dad has been to every school but Notre Dame. He didn't make the trip and he wants to go check it out. He'll play a large part in my decision, too. He'll go up there to visit and then we'll sit down and discuss my decison. He said he'd do that soon, but I'm not sure when."
Comments: The Irish appear to be in good shape for Nelson. He and his mom enjoyed their visit to Notre Dame. The Irish appear to be the clear leader at this point. Anything can change, but we think he'll end up choosing Notre Dame in the end. We'll stay on top of him until he makes his final decision.
