Joey Hiben said he really enjoyed his Notre Dame camp experience. "Camp went pretty good," said Hiben. "I only went for their one-day camp, but I thought I performed well."
Hiben said he thought he held his own and then some in the camp. "They had a couple of tight ends there that were pretty good, but I felt I really did well, especially in the one-on-one situations against the safeties," said Hiben. "That's one good thing about one-on-one, the tight end always gets the ball," he said laughingly.
The Irish didn't offer Hiben, but that could be coming shortly. "They didn't make and offer," Hiben said. "It sounds like they're getting close. They told me that I'm the next guy on their list. They've only offered one tight end, and if coach Willingham wants to offer another, I'd be the next guy on the list."
Hiben says he's willing to wait for an Irish offer. "Coach Mattison just told me to be patient," said Hiben. "He told me not to make a decision right away and to just wait a little while. I think Notre Dame is worth waiting for."
The Minnesota native says he has two schools standing out front right now. "Notre Dame and Stanford would be my leaders," said Hiben. "I'm going to check out some more schools. I went to Boston College camp and I liked their campus. I'll always keep Minnesota in mind and I'll check them out. Also, Purdue is another top school I'll be checking out."
Comments: Hiben didn't seem too disappointed he wasn't offered. He seemed willing to wait for an Irish offer. If so, the Irish should have a very good chance to land him if they do end up offering Hiben. We'll keep an eye on him to see if he does get offered soon.
