Scott Smith Commits to Notre Dame

Highland Park, Illinois linebacker Scott Smith became the fourth known commitment of the 2004 season for Notre Dame on Friday. Why did Smith choose Notre Dame?

Irish Eyes just got a call from linebacker Scott Smith. "Mr. Frank, at 11:30 AM this morning I committed to Notre Dame," Smith said. "I called coach Mattison and told him I was committing."

Smith said he had been thinking about committing since he received his offer from Notre Dame earlier this month. "I always knew Notre Dame would be the top school if they offered," Smith said. "I just talked it over with my parents last night and decided it was too good of an opportunity to pass up."

The combination of both football and a good education was too attractive to pass up for Smith. "I just looked at the total package. The education at Notre Dame is second to none. Football is life at Notre Dame and both are very important to me. I just felt really comfortable there so I decided to commit."

Smith said he family is thrilled with his decision. "Everyone was really excited when I got off the phone with coach Mattison," he said. "Everyone was really proud of me. It's a dream come true to play football at Notre Dame. Now I'm going to accomplish that dream."

The 6-3, 220-pound Smith is being recruited as a middle linebacker for the Irish. Insiders has received film of Smith and should have the film up soon for us all to see.
