Irish Get Their Quarterback

The Irish landed their seventh commitment of the 2004 season late Saturday night after landing their sixth commitment in wide receiver David Nelson earlier in the day. Who is the seventh commitment of the 2004 class?

Irish Eyes spoke to quarterback Evan Sharpley just as he returned from a baseball tournament in Georgia. Sharpley became the seventh known commmitment to Notre Dame of the 2004 season.

Quarterback Evan Sharpley has committed to Notre Dame. "It feels awesome," Sharpley said of the Irish offer. "I'm glad Notre Dame pulled the trigger. I had been waiting."

The 6-2, 200-pound Sharpley had been patiently waiting for the Irish to offer. "The wait wasn't bad," he said. "I just put my faith in God and it happened. I just had faith it would happen and it did."

Sharpley says he's now excited to see his first Notre Dame game. "I've never actually been to a game," Sharpley said. "I can't wait to go see a game."

We must commend Sharpley on his patience and the way he handled this situation. We have been following recruiting for 10 years and we cannot remember a quarterback who handled this type of situation with more class than Sharpley. To us, that speaks volumes about his character and should speak volumes to Irish fans about how much Sharpley wanted to play for Notre Dame. We were a big fan of Sharpley as stated earlier because he wasn't afraid to compete. That quality should serve him well when wearing the Irish jersey. Top Stories
