Early Heyman had an impressive junior season. "I had 16 sacks, 90 tackles and 30 tackles for loss," Heyman said when asked about his junior stats.
A number of schools have already offered Heyman. "Akron, Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Kentucky, Louisville, Purdue, Boston College, Miami of Ohio and Michigan State have offered me so far," Heyman said.
Heyman has also attended a number of camps this summer. "I went to Purdue, Kentucky and Louisville," Heyman said. "I also went to Notre Dame for the ESPN photo shoot."
The Irish are recruiting Heyman. "I get a lot of letters from them," he said. "I've talked to coach Mattison before. He's a really good man. I liked him a lot. I'm really interested in Notre Dame. They have a rich tradition and they have great academics. It would be a great opportunity to play for Notre Dame. I like them a lot."
We asked Heyman what college coaches like about his game. "They say I come off the ball very quick." Heyman said. "I'm extremely quick off the ball. I use all the moves and I can use my strength when I need to."
Heyman says he won't make an early decision. "I think I'll wait until after my senior season," Heyman said. "I want to see where each program is headed. I'll take all my visits.
"I'm going to look at the campus life at each school and see how I fit in there. The academics have to be on point and I'll also look at the coaching staff, the players and how the fans support their team."
Does Heyman have any leaders? "I like Notre Dame, Louisville, Kentucky, Purdue and Michigan State and Nebraska," Heyman said.
Heyman also is fully qualifed with a self-reported 2.5 core and he recently scored a 19 on his A.C.T.
Comments: Earl seems very interested in Notre Dame at this point. He won't be deciding right away so the Irish have some time to impress him. We think the Irish can at least get a visit out of him if they offer. We'll check back with Earl in September and see if the Irish continue to recruit him.
