Pipho Back From Unofficial Visits

La Porte City, Iowa offensive tackle prospect Matt Pipho had a busy summer on the road. Pipho traveled across the country to see some of his favorite schools. Which schools did Pipho visit? Where did he camp this summer? Are the Irish recruiting Pipho? When might he make a decision? We found the answers to all these questions and more in our conversation with Pipho.

Matt Pipho has had a busy summer. "I camped at Iowa," Pipho said "I had a good time. It was a good chance to get the pads on and get to play some football again. I learned a lot."

Pipho also traveled across the country visiting schools he was interested in. "I visited Nebraksa, Iowa State, Stanford and Miami," said Pipho. "I really liked them all. They were all pretty impressive. I liked the facilities a lot at Miami and Nebraska. I really like the coaches at Iowa State and Stanford has the excellent academics."

The 6-7 270-pound Pipho says schools are recruiting him as an offensive tackle. "I have offers from Iowa State and Stanford," he said. "Everyone is recruiting me as an offensive tackle. They haven't said anything specific about which side."

The Irish are also recruiting Pipho. "They have been recruiting me," Pipho said of Notre Dame. "We visited there in April. It was a pretty impressive place. I really liked the campus and facilities there. I got to speak to coach McDonnell quite a bit. He said they'd be recruiting me. I'm interested in Notre Dame. They send me mail but they can't call me right now because of the rules."

Pipho says he won't be making an early decision. "I plan to wait a while before I decide," Pipho said. "I plan to take my official visits before deciding. I don't know if I'll take them all. I'll try to fit them in with my schedule."

Pipho also has a list of things he'll be looking for in a school. "The academics will be very important," he said. "I'll also look at player development, the facilities and if they are a winning team."

Comments: The Irish appear to be recruiting Pipho and he seems to have some interest. We don't think the Irish are his top school at this point, but they haven't offered at this point. We'll check back with Matt in September to see if anything has changed with him.
